Job description

Sod/Turfgrass Planting: Tree and weed removal, picking up scrap sod from fields with the following hand tools: pitchforks, shovels, rakes, string trimmer, and machetes. Workers will operate tractor to plant sprigs to fields and operate tractor with pull behind mowers. Sod/Turfgrass Harvesting: Assisting the Sod Harvesting Manager with performing a second level of quality control. Sod must be rolled before it is harvested, which can be done by machine. Collecting harvested 2.5 by 80 big rolls, staging them for truck loading, and load big rolls on the delivery trucks. May also use tractor at a speed of about 3 mph, while pulling a roller, to roll the sod. Sod/Turfgrass Stacking (by hand): Hand stacking sod on back of the tractor. Worker will use a forklift to lay empty pallets on the sod stacking machine, On days when there are large orders or the mechanical sod stacker breaks down, manual sod stackers are used. Taking little roll sod and manually stacking them on a pallet. Sod/Turfgrass Loading (by hand): Sod is harvested by hand and stacked on a pallet in the field. Customers come out to the field and workers take 2 by 5 little roll of sod off the pallet and stack it on or in the customers vehicle. Little rolls of sod weight about 30-40 pounds each. Must be able to transfer 50 little rolls of sod by hand from a pallet. Minor mechanical work is associated with equipment, tractors, and trucks.

Special Requirements

Must be 18 years or older. Workers must have three (3) months experience in planting and harvesting sod/turfgrass. The employer may conduct criminal background checks on all new applicants for employment. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and communicated with supervisor when needed. Duties may vary from time to time. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Must be able to work outdoors in direct sunlight and weather conditions will be hot and humid, rainy, and be exposed to pollen the entire day while performing their required job duties. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach and lift. Lifting requirement is 5-40 lbs.
