Job description

Nursery ~ Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Shovel, level, haul, spread rock, dig holes, ditches and trenches. Mowing and trimming grass. Use hand tools such as shovels, trawls, hoes, grass trimmer, pruning hooks, pruning shears and knives. Duties may include tiling soil, transplanting, thinning or pruning crops and spraying insecticide, fungicide and herbicide with air blast sprayer on tractor and 4- wheeler. May also construct, repair, fences, farm buildings and cover and maintain greenhouses. Plant seedlings, seed and plants while standing. Worker will re-plant and step up gallon pots to two - or three - gallon pots. Load and unload plants from/on trucks. Worker will use a tractor; weed eater, lawn mower and 4-wheeler with trailers to perform certain duties around fields and inside nursery. Greenhouse ~ Clean and organize greenhouses and loading sheds before and after use. Hoe weeds in fields, inside and outside greenhouses. Blueberries ~ Manually plant, cultivate, harvest field crops. Graft blueberry plants, prune blueberry bushes by hand using pruning shears, loppers and mechanical pruner. Inspect bushes for damage, disease or insect infestation and remove or replace as directed by farm manager. May also pick blueberries by hand or harvest by use of mechanical harvester equipment, load and transport blueberries to processing shed with trucks and trailers. Blueberries are perishable and must be picked and packed within a limited time of harvest. Load mulch on trailer and move to fields, unload and spread mulch around plants as needed. Inspect the field to maintain a 3 to 5 foot weed free strip between rows by removing weeds, grass, etc. using hoe or pulling by hand. Remove debris from fields using hoes, shovels, and basket. Inspect field irrigation systems, dig up and replace damaged pipes, valves, water jets, sprinklers, etc. using shovels, wrenches, etc. May fix roads and monitor frost protector to control airflow over fields. Worker may be required to perform miscellaneous packinghouse work, cleaning equipment, including. grading, stacking packed cartons, dumping fruit from cartons and constructing boxes. Packinghouse is part of and owned by K & M Blueberry Farm and Nursery, which only their product will be going in/out of the packinghouse. OFLC Administrator publishes new AEWR rates yearly and we reserve the right to adjust our job order to the new published rate regardless of rate increases or decreases. Raises and bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker, at the employer’s discretion, based on individual factors including but not limited to, performance, experience, number of hours worked in the season, number of seasons worked with the company, adherence to work rules and ability to follow supervisor’s instructions.

Special Requirements

Employer may conduct Criminal Background Check. Job requires 3 months experience in blueberries, nursery and/or greenhouse. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and communicated with supervisor when needed. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. There is a lifting requirement of 5-75 lbs. The majority of the day is spent on ones feet and outdoors. Workers must be able to stand, sit, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from waist), push, pull, and reach. Safety training for use of farm equipment will be provided, if needed. Work in 0 degree to 100-degree temperatures and possibly rain. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested, must be bilingual in English and Spanish to be able to communicate with field workers and adequately follow instructions given by supervisor.
