Job description

Work in fish ponds and fish hatchery , mowing, checking water levels, oxygen levels, water temperature, harvesting fish, monitoring ponds for insects and disease, cleaning equipment (e.g. paddle wheels, buoys), feeding fish and fingerlings, levee preparation and maintenance. Repair spawning containers and place into brood ponds. Check spawning containers by feeling inside container, remove spawn from containers, move to the hatchery, place into the hatching troughs. Hatchery work includes collecting fish eggs by squeezing fish, fertilizing eggs, incubating and moving to hatching troughs. Move fry to nursery ponds. Clean and sterilize equipment. Move fingerlings to rearing ponds. After spawning, remove spawning containers and consolidate brood fish to holding ponds. Do general farm maintenance duties including cleaning sheds and equipment. Some grain crops, drive 250 hp tractors, plant and harvest.

Special Requirements

Able to drive 250 hp tractor, able to swim-ponds are 6-14 deep. Work outside. Some heavy lifting (30 lbs.) Able to perform physically demanding job duties. Must be available for the entire contract period and able to perform all job duties. Hours of work may vary due to weather conditions and job duties. A drivers license is not required to drive farm trucks on-farm access roads or to drive farm implements, tractors, etc. Applicants meeting all qualifications required must possess documents to complete INS Form I-9 and be available at the time and place necessary to begin employment.
