Job description

The worker will perform job duties as assigned by the supervisor. They will vary from time to time depending on crop ripening and weather. The collard greens and cabbage planting, harvesting, packing, and field work is temporary and will last from November to January.

Cabbage and Collard Green Planting-The worker will go down the field rows carrying trays filled with seedlings and bend down and plant the cabbage and collard green seedlings by inserting them into the holes already prepped by a tractor and pushing them down to secure them into the soil.

Cabbage Hand Harvesting and Packing- In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row, bend down and look for the ripe cabbage and cut the cabbage off the plant with a knife, detaching it from the outer leaves, and then placing it in a packing cardboard box. The Cabbage may be wrapped in plastic wrap before being placed in box. The worker then takes the full box to the loader on the loading truck. They are given an empty box, and the process is started again.

Collard Green Hand Harvesting and Packing- In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row, bend down and look for the ripe collard green leaves, 8 to 12 leaves are bunched together and cut off the plant with a knife. The leaves are then rubber banded together and placed in a packing cardboard box. The worker then takes the full box to the loader on the loading truck. The worker is given an empty box, and the process is started again.

Field Work- During the contract, the worker will plant new plants where plants have died, weed planting beds, and perform other miscellaneous field work.

Field Drivers-The field drivers will drive the trailers or loading trucks out to the field where the field workers who are harvesting the cabbage and collard greens and will load them onto the trailer or loading truck until full. They will then drive the fully loaded trailers or loading trucks back to the packing shed where the packing shed workers will unload them onto a belt. The process is then repeated again.

Equipment and Vehicle Operation-The workers may need to drive and/or operate various agricultural farm equipment and vehicles to perform the work on the farm such as field trucks, tractors, and forklifts. The workers must use safety and precaution when using agricultural farm equipment and vehicles. Passengers must be seated and practice safety and precaution. The passengers must wait to exit the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles when the equipment or vehicle comes to a complete stop. The workers will keep the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles free of trash. Only properly licensed drivers will be permitted to operate the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles.

Special Requirements

The worker must be responsible and consistent on the job. The worker must be able to lift 0-75 lbs., do repetitive movements, extensive pushing and pulling, walking, frequent stooping continuously throughout the day, and work in all kinds of weather conditions.
