Job description
Perform duties like: Rounding up cattle. Working and vaccinating cattle. Pregnancy checking.
Castrating. Moving calves to separate pastures for weaning and feeding
Feeding cows, replacement heifers and bulls. Post weaning- separate selected heifers to keep
as replacements and remaining will be shipped to market. With summer drought in 2023, our
hay production is lower than expected, we will be supplementing more this winter with feed to
maintain our cattle. Daily fence inspection. Maintaining feed equipment. Inspect livestock for
illness/injuries. Daily water trough inspection (fresh water and not frozen over). Hauling water
to one of our winter pastures (no well or freshwater source in that area). Hoping to drill a well
there in 2024. Winterizing barns, wells and supply pipes to prevent issues during hard freezing
temperatures. Moving cows to calving pastures (end of Jan-February) Calving season begins
March through May. Drive to town to pick up cattle supplies.
Special Requirements
Minimum of 1 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of
hire. Must be able to lift a 75 pound calf. Lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. The worker will be
exposed to extreme temperatures. Extensive pushing and pulling is required. Extensive walking is required.
Repetitive movements is required. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward
exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion.
