Job description

Florida Line Nursery crops include Citrus, Figs, Mayhaw and Avocados.
Worker must possess the physical strength and endurance (ability to continue or last) to repeat the harvest process though out the workday, working quickly and skillfully to perform activities assigned during that activity. Workers must work at a sustained (continuing for an extended period of time without interruption), vigorous pace (quick and steady) and make bona fide efforts (made in earnest intent) to work efficiently (performing or functions in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort) and consistently (same way for a long time) that are reasonable under the climatic and other working conditions, Workers may not leave trash, or other discarded items in work areas or vehicles but must dispose of such items in provided receptacles. Workers must wash hands with soap and water after all bathroom and meal breaks. Allergies to varieties of ragweed, goldenrod, insecticides, related agricultural chemicals, etc., may affect worker’s ability to perform the work described herein.
Citrus Nursery: Workers will work in the citrus nursery potting, and re-potting trees. Workers will perform various support duties associated with the citrus nursery. Workers will perform various tasks involved in planting, pruning, transplanting, seeding, including seed harvest, potting, irrigation, watering, staking wrapping, budding, grafting, and propagation in a tree nursery. Workers must ensure the area and tools are sterilized to prevent the spread of diseases. Workers will load and unload trees and supplies.
General duties: Workers will assist with the construction of an irrigation system, construction of the nursery and field layout. Workers will clear land to assist with the building of the fields and other nursery areas. Workers will plant, prune, transplant, seed, pot, move pots, water, stalk, wrap, bundle, graft, propagate, and sterilize.
General Maintenance: Workers will perform various duties for up keeping of the nursery. These duties may include painting of nursery buildings, fence repair, mowing, weed eating, and other general building and ground maintenance.
Loading and unloading: Workers will be required to count, load and unload plants.
Cultivation: Workers may be required to work as operators of wheel tractors pulling cultivators, mower or hilling disks as an incidental activity for cultivation.
Watering: Workers may be required to water trees by hand using pumps and hoses. Workers will run irrigation pipes and pumps.
Nursery Equipment: This includes tractors, loaders, pot filler, flat filler, seeding, potting machines and trucks. Workers will be required to operate tractors and other farm equipment during field operations as an incidental activity for planting, cultivating, harvesting, installing and support jobs of the crops. Operate mowing equipment (rotary and reel types, push and riding) or drive a tractor pulling a wagon through the field or between fields. Workers may operate golf carts, gators, mule, or similar vehicles. Workers will operate trucks and tractor on state owned streets. Workers will be required to operate all farm equipment according to instructions and in manner that protects the operator, other workers, crops, and equipment. Repeated failure to obey operating and safety instructions may result in termination.

Special Requirements

Workers must have 3 months experience as an agricultural worker. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
