Job description

The beekeeper will be responsible for commercial activities concerning the raising of bees, care of beehives, pollination, and honey production. Employees must be familiar with the work of bees at all stages, from the egg up to the full development of the worker-bee, drones, and queens. Beekeepers must respond to the natural cycle of the bees and ensure that the hives are in a state of harmony and good health for their survival and optimal honey production. Duties further include but are limited to: keep bee hives in a healthy to produce honey; prepare bees and equipment for pollination; enter the colony to determine if food or medicine is required, and feed and medicate bees by utilizing simple application processes; Determine and identify when to lift or replace the queen; Divide swarms of bees and force the bees out to the hive when necessary; receive, lift, load and unload hives, boxes, and apiaries when needed; place the hives in ideal locations to ensure that bee colonies are healthy and have good honey production; run queen breeding yard and produce queen bees; manipulate and service hive structures; Light truck drivers will haul/transport bee hives and apiary equipment to and from different hive locations to ensure healthy and productive honeybee colonies; harvest honeycomb and extract honey; perform general maintenance and cleaning of equipment and hive boxes, tools, and facility, which may include painting, cleaning, assembling or repairing boxes; and assist the company to get bee hives ready for winter storage. Position works mainly outside in field locations, which may include exposure to extreme temperatures, sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, chemicals, heat, and cold. Position involves working near machinery. All tools, supplies, equipment, and special protective clothing such as veils, gloves, and suits will be provided at no cost to the workers. Perform other tasks associated with the care of bees that are necessary for pollination and honey production.
