Job description

Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of wine grapes. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to equipment operation.
Will apply specific horticultural techniques as instructed by the employer when carrying out the following responsibilities; prepare fields/plant/spray/weed and irrigate plants/shrubs/trees/vines; sow seed and plant cuttings; recognize disease and/or nutrient/moisture requirements by plant texture/development or soil condition; observe general condition of plants and apply the appropriate care; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); check/notate the chemical inventory; read/interpret meters used to regulate/control environmental conditions; vineyard soil sampling; tissue sampling; pollinate/prune/transplant/pinch plants and cull appropriately to ensure development of product; mechanically maintain vine canopy growth; cover crop planting/seeding; bird net application; vine canopy mechanical pruning; harvest/pack and store crop; maintain and repair structures/grounds; maintenance/installation of above ground trellising; maintenance of existing trellising; haul and spread soil/products to condition land; prepare crops for shipment; drive/load unload farm trucks; transport crops to/from market/storage; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.
Irrigation duties will include the following:
Drip Irrigation System: irrigation application and maintenance; install/maintain/repair systems; turn on pumps; turn on to start flow of water; understand when repair is needed on pumps.
General Vineyard Work will include the following responsibilities; maintain, drive and operate farm tractors/ implements/equipment; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; use of tractor with mechanical equipment and perform canopy elimination of excess leaves/debris; ability to understand sprayer calibrations necessary to applying/spraying (pesticides/herbicides/fertilizers) to crops; tractor pesticide applications; remove weeds mechanically from crops; tillage of vine rows; drive/load harvested fruit.

Special Requirements

Applicants must have 20 days experience with vineyard work, including the proper operation of horticultural equipment and the use and maintenance of drip irrigation systems, and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid Drivers License as driving on public roads may be required.
