Job description
Workers will perform tasks for various employers as listed on their contract.
Crops: Leafy Greens
The fresh food packer position performs multiple manual tasks and duties to assist other workers with safe plant and equipment preparation, operation, maintenance, sanitation, storage, and organization. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties listed below are representative of the essential functions, qualifications, physical demands, and the work environment encountered in this position. Job duties include cooperating and communicating with all team members to efficiently complete work and inspect products to verify conformance to quality standards. Workers will assist operators by performing the following duties: Supplying materials, holding materials, holding tools, cleaning work areas and equipment. Workers will lift and dump raw materials, finished products and packed items, manually or using ag equipment. Workers will also be required to build and fill boxes, or other packaging properly as instructed with product, load and unload barrels, containers and other items from trucks, machines or conveyors, mark or tag labels and identification on products, measure amounts of products or weights of filled containers to ensure conformance to specifications, observe equipment operations so that malfunctions can be detected and notify operators or any malfunctions, seal/pack/store materials and products and stack them in a cold room, place products in equipment or on work surfaces for future processing, inspection or wrapping, remove products/machine attachments/waste materials from machines, transfer finished products/raw products/tools/equipment between storage and work areas of plant/warehouse by hand or using ag equipment, sanitize/clean and wash work areas/outside areas/machines, equipment, products and production areas while wearing appropriate PPE, and mixing proper chemicals amounts for sanitizing/cleaning/washing. Each employee must uphold and support all food safety rules, regulations, requirements, and consider food safety as core value that ensures a safe and wholesome food product. Workers will perform any other incidental activity associated with the crops in this job order.
Workers will embrace and support the safety culture at this facility and will need basic knowledge of arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Workers are asked to have knowledge of safe equipment and machinery operations and procedures, basic knowledge of machines and tools, including their operations, use and maintenance. They will need to have the ability to adjust and control machines or a processing quickly and repeatedly to exact position, convey information effectively to others, and use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Farm Equipment Operation: Workers may be required to operate farm equipment during daily operations, as an incidental activity. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, workers will be instructed in the safety and operation of the tractor before driving the tractor. Tractors should be driven in a manner to protect operator, other workers, products, trees, crops, and equipment. Repeated failure to obey safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination.
Special Requirements
All applicants must have three months experience working in agriculture. Applicants must furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
