Job description
Temporary farmworkers needed for crawfish & rice seasons. Job duties include daily upkeep along with repairs & maintenance to farm equipment, shops, barns, grain bins, levees, and roads. Mow grass, rake, dig ditches & remove debris, trash, brush, and weeds, etc. Use of hand tools (shovels, sprayer, hoses, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, knives, etc.) Harvest crawfish, prepare ponds, maintain water levels, walk levees & repair as needed. Build & repair traps. Manually cut up fish bait, set, bait, check, & re-bait crawfish traps, involving frequent stooping & lifting of traps from pond.
Operate push & motorized crawfish boats. Grade, wash & sack crawfish for shipment. Load & unload trucks. Plant & harvest rice crops, including irrigation, drainage, cultivation, and all related preparation & maintenance of farm fields. Operate & maintain farm equipment such as tractors, plows, levels, mowers, etc. Crop maintenance at grain bins as needed. Perform extensive physical activities using repetitive body movement for long periods such as to climb, lift up to 70lbs, balance, walk, bend, stretch, twist, kneel, push, pull & handle materials. Possible contact with snakes, alligators, insects, frogs, etc. Able to work outside in inclement weather conditions from exposure to extreme heat to cold & rain. Pre-employment drug screening is not required; however, once hired, the employer reserves the right to request all workers to submit random drug screening throughout employment at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination. Time may vary due to unforeseen mechanical problems, severe weather conditions decreasing or depleting crop availability or causing early completion of harvesting seasons.
Special Requirements
Employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities so that workers can prepare their own meals. Employer will provide transportation to assure worker(s) access to stores where they can purchase groceries and other necessary items. (See Section F. Transportation & Daily Subsistence for details). Cooking and kitchen facilities will have adequate space for food preparation along with necessary equipment, appliances (including refrigeration), cooking utensils and dish-washing facilities that are in working condition.
