Job description

Worker will be working with herd of sheep. Sheep will all be corralled and penned in groups. Each separate penned group of sheep will be tagged for identification and vaccinated in accordance with veterinarian recommendations. Next, the new herd of sheep will need to be integrated into existing herd. Worker must be able to lift and carry weight up to 100 pounds for 75 yards. Work will be performed outdoors, and worker will be exposed to extreme cold conditions on occasion, as well as snowy and windy conditions. Worker will be exposed to herding hazards, poisonous snakes, and predators common in range lands.
General supervision will be provided by the ranch owner. A minimum of 6 months experience is required working with sheep. Range Duties include: Herd sheep to pastures for grazing; sort and round up strays; protect and defend livestock from predators and from eating poisonous or noxious plants; ride horse and/or 4-wheeler to move livestock; if riding horse the worker must be able to handle a horse to ensure the safety of the worker, co-workers and livestock; manually restrain livestock when required; apply medication to cuts and bruises; spray sheep with insecticide; feed livestock supplementary rations; feed and care for horses and other domestic animals used on the range to help with herding; setup and take down electric fence; inspect and repair other fencing used to contain the herd. Must be able to find and maintain bearings to grazing areas. Must be willing and able to live and work independently in isolated areas for extended periods of time. Workers must be willing and able to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. Duties that may be performed off the range less than 50% of the time include: Worker must assist with lambing of sheep, attend to sheep in barns during lambing season, herd sheep into corrals and stalls, manually restrain sheep, may clean stalls, pens and other equipment used for the production of sheep.

Special Requirements

Workers must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 lbs. A minimum of 6 months of experience working with sheep is required. Scott Stubbs Livestock will provide cell phones for electronic communication without charge or deposit to workers for the entire period of employment. All additional equipment necessary to complete the herding duties (including a horse and dog) will be provided by the employer at no cost to the workers.
