Job description

All duties are closely and directly related to the production of cattle.
Perform any combination of the following tasks required for the production of cattle: adjust alignment of pipes ; adjust gates and pipe connections to control water flow; assemble, use and maintain electric fencing; assist with irrigating forage; Irrigate soil, irrigation with hand lines and flood irrigation; maintenance of farm structures and farm grounds; monitor soil moisture levels; rotate livestock through a systematic rotation grazing program, adhere to safety and animal handling procedures dictated by the employer; administer medication as needed; assist in the maintenance of tools, equipment and handling facilities necessary to production; assist with castration of livestock; ensure newly born calves stand and nurse; feed cake and mineral to cattle in pastures; handle livestock using low stress methods; load bales of hay and/or sacks of grain onto truck or trailer used for feeding; maintain/clean and fill water troughs and buckets; make certain animals have access to fresh water; monitor and treat livestock for internal and external parasites; monitor animals for weight gain, thrift and health problems; move livestock to appropriate grazing areas to avoid undue stress on livestock; spray livestock with insecticide

Special Requirements

Required to: perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision, live and work singly or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time, to ride, handle and tend horses in a manner to assure the safety and health of the worker, co-workers, horses, dogs and livestock, to maintain equipment and machinery to a standard established by the employer, work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes, biting insects and extreme temperature, to operate equipment and machinery required to perform job duties indicated in a safe and responsible manner, maintain and manage remote housing locations in a safe and responsible manner, work with and around farm machinery such as tractors for haying and supplemental feeding purposes and ATVs for irrigating and the movement of livestock, drive a team of draft horses, work with, repair and maintain both set field fence and temporary electric fence.
