Job description
Seine ponds to harvest stocker catfish and transfer to grow-out ponds. Harvest brood fish from holding ponds and
transfer to brood pond. Visually inspect brood fish, select based on physical characteristics, sex ratio and weight.
Monitor brood and grow out ponds for disease outbreaks and predatory birds. Observe fish behavior/physical
condition, monitor/correct oxygen levels in pond water. Feed fish. Clean/disinfect hatching jars. Monitor hatchery,
feed fry 12 to 18 times daily. Transfer fry to nursery ponds. Feed nursery ponds by hand/feeder multiple times per
day. After spawning consolidate brood fish to holding ponds. Perform typical farm and pond maintenance levee
repair and maintenance, pull weeds, mow grass, clean and store equipment, etc. Uses seines, dip nets, waders,
gloves Uses oxygen meter and/or chemical test kit Alternate work includes cleaning shed areas, removing debris
from farm areas, repairing sheds, etc. work in 4-4 1/2 feet water, handle live fish.
Special Requirements
Walk in 4-41/2 feet water. Able to swim. Work is outside 99% of time. Work in hot and cold weather. Uses seines, dip nets, waders, gloves, mowers, hoes, shovels. Uses oxygen meter and/or chemical test kit After demonstration able to use oxygen meter and identify and correct chemical imbalance in pond water. Must be available for entire contract period and able to perform all job duties. Hours of work may vary due to weather conditions and job duties. Applicants meeting all qualifications required must possess documents to complete INS Form I-9 and be available at time and place necessary to begin employment. Worker will only drive on farm property, such as in fields A drivers license is not required to drive farm trucks on farm access roads or to drive farm implements, tractors etc.
