Job description
Calve out calves during the calving season. Tag calves, medicate, vaccinate and treat for seasonal illnesses. Care for the newborn calves and nursing mothers during the cold weather period when they require addition care and feed due to the extremely cold temperatures and seasonal illnesses. Isolate sick calves.
Transport hay bales. Feed cattle snowy/subfreezing periods when no seasonal pasture lands remain available for them to naturally graze upon. Remove snow from farm property. Break ice formation in water tanks daily, possibly multiple times a day depending on the temperatures. Fix and repair fencing damaged by drifting snow. Move all livestock out to pasture once seasonal grasslands become accessible. Haul minerals and salt blocks to various pasture lands and check on the water accessibility, periodically throughout each day. Routinely check on livestock in various pasture lands.
Worker(s) will be required to assist and operate haying farm equipment to swath, bale and stack the hay bales.
Worker(s) must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision and live and work singly or in small groups of workers.
The job entails working with farm/ranch animals, farm equipment, outdoors (extreme heat, wind, dust, rain, snow, cold and below zero temperatures) and occasional exposure to herding cattle hazards. Worker(s) will be expected to keep all vehicles, housing and buildings in clean condition. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items up to 100 pounds.
All vehicles operated by the worker(s) will be under the 26,001 lb GVW weight limit.
Other responsibilities involving general farm/ranch duties, repairs and upkeep.
