Job description

. Crops/Commodities:
Container grown nursery stock (azaleas, grasses, junipers, ornamentals, trees, etc.).
This job requires a minimum of three months of prior experience working in a commercial tree and shrub nursery handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Workers will plant, cultivate, maintain and harvest horticultural specialties, container grown and field grown nursery stock, in condition for shipping and sale to customers; pot seedlings, mix potting soil, prune, propagate, transplant, space, water/irrigate, fertilize and cull plants to ensure availability of marketable products; pack, label, pull and store plants according to variety; uncover and/or recover winter storage houses; weed, mow, load/unload truck and trailers; clean and dig ditches; operate tractors and other mechanical equipment under supervision; perform any other duties involved in the maintenance of plant materials and nursery stock and maintenance of holding yards and shipping areas.

Work is to be done for long periods of time. Workers are expected to perform duties including boxing, weighing and loading of product. Employees must be able to frequently lift trees ranging in weight from 20 to 75 pounds and occasionally lift trees weighing up to 100 pounds with the assistance of others. Workers will assist in loading trucks with product weighing up to and including 75 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet for long periods of time. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers’ ability to perform the job. Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day, working in fields. Temperatures may range from 10 to 100 F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Saturday work required. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use. A clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) required to drive company vehicles. Must have or be able to obtain driver’s license within 30 days following hire. Must have or be able to obtain pesticide handler's license within 30 days following hire.

Work will also include mechanized field work using power equipment. By way of example and not limitation power equipment may include tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivators and other equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction.

Employer assures that workers will be provided transportation from living quarters to work site every day (for workers who must be provided housing under the applicable regulations.)

Raises and/or bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker employed pursuant to this job order, at the company's sole discretion, based on individual factors including work performance, skill, and tenure. This is not promised or guaranteed.

Special Requirements

Must have or be able to obtain drivers license within 30 days following hire. Must have or be able to obtain pesticide handler's license within 30 days following hire.
