Job description

Canning Laborer- Outdoor work is required when plants are wet, or during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity, and extreme (hot) temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours may vary. Workers may be required to work during inclement weather. Sensitivity to environmental allergens, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Work is done outdoors for long periods of time and requires prolonged periods of standing and/or walking, repetitive movements, and frequent bending and/or stooping.

Workers must be able to handle, lift and carry heavy or bulky objects (product, containers), in accordance with the specified lifting requirements.

Responsible to shift plants to larger containers.
Operate equipment (tractor and forklift) according to safe operating guidelines.
Communicate with team members and other departments.
Work efficiently.
Teamwork environment.
Maintain equipment to ensure it is always in safe working order.
Use forks on the tow motor to open bags of peat moss.
Use front end loader to transfer soil into mixer.
Work with bags of fertilizer.
Stage pots on canning machine for sizes needed.
Unload plants from liner prep wagons to canning machine.
Unload finished potted plants from conveyor on canning machine to wagons.
Clean up work area at the end of each workday.
Any related job duty assigned by your supervisor.

Set Down I s pacing Laborer:
Operate equipment (tractor and forklift) according to safe work guidelines.
Keep all equipment, tools, and supplies clean and in good working order.
Communicate with team members and other departments.
Work efficiently.
Teamwork environment.
Maintain equipment to ensure it is always in safe working order.
Bring plants from potting barn to designated field location.
Set down plants according to need (pot tight or spaced).
Move pot tight plant material to designated spacing area and set down according to spacing requirements.
Document all plants that are set down per day (variety, location, size).
Label plants until permanent crop stakes are applied.
Maintain a steady workflow to ensure that the canning crew is never out of wagons.
Packing/trumping finished plants once they are set down in the field.
Clean up all finished beds at the end of set down per day/per week (string, rebar, etc.).
Any related job duty assigned by your supervisor.

Propagation/Liner
Responsible for producing new plants.
Operate equipment (tractor/front end loader) according to safe work guidelines.
Use front end loader to move large amounts of sand in/out of the BA houses.
Move sand around BA houses with handheld tools (shovel).
Use clippers to strip cutting.
Make, collect or remove cuttings.
Cany cutting basket(s) back to work vehicle.
Hand pot cuttings.
Transfer hand pots to liner houses.
Unload trays of pots in the liner house.
Water new cuttings.
Weeding the liner area and BA.
Any related job duty assigned by your supervisor.

Irrigation-
Responsible for watering plants on property.
Maintain equipment (wrench, tractor, shovel) to ensure it is in safe working condition.
Check pump houses, water pressure, sprinklers, furnaces and/or ponds to ensure water flow and heat to houses as needed.
Transfer up and running.
Repair lines as needed.
Any related job duty assigned by your supervisor.
Clean and maintain irrigation lines.

General Laborer Plant Maintenance
Responsible for maintaining plants on property.
Perform manual and mechanized tasks associated with the outdoor production of horticultural products.
Plant, cultivate and maintain nursery stock, trees, shrubs, plugs, liners, and other horticultural varieties.
Responsible for the spacing, condensing, trimming, weeding, fertilizing, herbicide of plants in the nursery.
Cut/mow/weed eat all surrounding areas of the nursery.
Any related job duty assigned by your supervisor.

Special Requirements

This job requires a minimum of 3 months of agricultural experience working in a greenhouse or nursery handling manual tasks associated with production of flowers, nursery stock and vegetables. Saturday work is required. Must be able to lift and carry 100 pounds. Employer may conduct drug/alcohol testing post-employment and at employers expense. Employer may conduct criminal background checks post-employment and at the employer's expense.
