Job description

Beekeeping: Prepare bees and bee equipment for pollination. Must be familiar with working with bees in all stages, from egg through mature workers, drones and queens. Must work all aspects of commercial beekeeping. Access colony to determine if food or medicine is needed. Feeding and medicate bees for diseases and pests. Maintain hives in healthy state. Raise and replace queens. Make divides. Build, rebuild, paint, and clean boxes for beehives. Add or remove boxes to and from beehives as necessary. Run queen breeding yard and produce queen bees. Manipulate and service hive structures. Haul bees to and from different hive locations. Ensure healthy and productive honeybee colonies. Harmonize bees with their natural cycle. Cap and handle combs. Remove wax from honey. Remove honey from hives. Extract honey. Workers must be familiar with hive tools and smoker. Worker will assist with refining wax and processing honey. Prepare honey by filtration and/or moisture reduction before final packaging. Blend and filter wax before final packaging for sale. General yard work around facilities.

Special Requirements

able to: lift up to 75 lbs. repetitively, provide references to verify exp. No fear of/non-allergic to bees/pollen. Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of commercial beekeeping from pollination to queen rearing, extraction thru packaging honey for sales. Work in temperatures that reach 100-/+ degrees depending on the time of year. Prepare hives and equipment for pollination. Have experience using forklifts, hive tools and smokers. Ability to distinguish bees in all stages from larvae to adult stages. Must be able to maintain the health and stability of hives by determining if hives require feeding, medication for disease &/or pests. Knowledge in making splits, repair of hive boxes (ex: paint, repair, clean etc.) assemble &/or clean frames, move hives to and from various locations. Working at night is also required at times throughout the season. Must be able to pull/carry boxes of honey (7Slbs +)repeatedly.
