Job description
Record information about crops such as pesticide use, yields, or costs; Direct and monitor work during planting and harvesting of crops; Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops including cleaning and moving; Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment; Set up, repair, maintain, and operate irrigation equipment; Inform farm managers of crop progress; Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery (much of which is equipped with GPS and swath management) such as swather, baler to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops such as hay, wheat, soybeans, milo, corn, cotton; Load agricultural products into trucks without over or underfilling bed or trailer, and drive to market or storage facilities; Clean work areas and maintain grounds and landscaping; Regulate conditions; Feel plants' leaves and note their coloring to detect the presence of insects or disease; Maintain inventory; Attend to life farm animals including cattle by calving, feeding, receiving, weaning, processing; Apply fly control; Trap and destroy pests such as moles, gophers, and mice; Haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, and other materials to condition soil; Repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures; Mix materials, dump solutions or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery; Attach implements using hand tools; Weigh containers and record weights and identifying information; Guide products on conveyors to regulate flow through machines, discard rotten items; Position boxes/bags at ends of machinery to catch products, remove and close full containers.
