Job description
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of potatoes, grain, corn, alfalfa and cattle. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to minor agricultural equipment maintenance and repairs.
The job duties of the Mechanical Assistant may include the following responsibilities: adjust, repair and service farm machinery such as wheel loaders, tractors, tillage implements, planting equipment, trucks, harvesting equipment, and other farm implements; notify shop supervisor when machinery malfunctions; perform minor mechanical adjustments, repairs, and lubrication on farm machinery; repair or replace defective parts using hand tools such as grinders, saws, drill presses, hand drills, pressure washers, painting tools, and tire repair tools; may assist in the repair of axles; replace and repair tarps; inspect mechanical equipment to locate damage, defects, or wear and report findings to supervisor; perform general cleanup of shop areas, fields, crop storage, and farm areas; load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, forklifts, or transfer augers; clean equipment; perform miscellaneous duties related to general farm work and general cleanup of farm property.
General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: drive farm trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools and farm workers; maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/equipment/tractors/tillage equipment to cultivate, plant, fertilize, and harvest crops; remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair farm structures; maintain/repair fencing; drive, load/unload farm/Ag exempt, non CDL 10-wheel trucks; transport crops to onsite storage facilities; operate motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.
Special Requirements
Applicants must have 6 months experience with the applicable shop assistant job duties and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid drivers license as driving on public roads may be required. To meet minimum acceptable performance standards when irrigating, the worker must, after a 10-day conditioning period, move an average of at least 48 40-foot sections of 3-inch pipe or 44 40-foot sections of 4-inch pipe per hour under normal working conditions.
