Job description
All Activities: Workers will perform all job specifications as instructed by the Farm Manager or Crew Supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time and may include all of the following job specifications.
The employee will perform any combination of the following tasks:
Prepare soil and growth medium, haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, lime, and other soil conditions on sod grass and turf areas. This does not include work with herbicides/pesticides. The employer only allows licensed managers to work with these products.
The worker will dig, rake and screen soil; fill tanks with water and handle irrigation equipment; sow grass seed; cut, roll and stack sod; plant Sod.
Workers must operate farm equipment / machinery to mow grass, plot fields, load and unload trucks, forklifts, and sod cutters.
When work in sod is not available, the workers may be offered other general agricultural duties associated with sod farming including building and equipment maintenance, repairing fences and similar tasks; plowing, and mowing; drive water tank tractor to water crops, and on occasion workers may operate other motor equipment.
Qualification: Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral instructions. Be physical ability to perform various manual tasks. Be experienced in farm equipment operation.
Education: Sufficient to follow oral instructions
Job Location and Work Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in various field locations on the farm. The workers will be exposed to all temperature and weather extremes (i.e. heat, rain, wind, cold, and dusty conditions), moving equipment, loud noises, wetness, dust, fumes, and requires walking on soft much and hard and uneven surfaces.
Special Requirements
The employer may conduct a criminal background test, and/or drug test post-employment at the employers expense.
