Job description
We are a pheasant hatchery where our season runs from March until December. In March, we increase our breading hens from 2,000 to 18,500 hens. This is the start of our egg production season. We plan to hatch 700,000 chicks this spring. Most chicks are boxed up the day of hatch and shipped as day-olds. We will keep 120,000 of those to raise up to 7 weeks olds and adults for our fall sales and breeding stock. Our breeding stock is outside so we gather eggs in all weather conditions. We clean out chick barns about every day. Washing equipment and rooms daily. Wah eggs several times a day. Repairs to pheasant pens buildings. We fix our own equipment as often as we can. We move 7-week-old birds from the barns to our flight pens. In the fall we ship Adults to the hunt clubs and start the breeding selection. Our pheasant season is from March until December. The last of our birds are shipped out in December. Job duties include: gathering eggs, wash eggs, count and separate chicks to ship, cleaning manure out of barns, pressure wash buildings and equipment, carry feed, water birds, pickup dead birds daily, repair pheasant pens, rototill pens and plant cover for birds, repair and maintain equipment, maintain and clean farmstead, move chicks to flight pens, repair and maintain mechanical equipment, build new pheasant structures, and load and ship adult birds in the fall.
