Job description

The primary job will be working with turfgrass sod the majority of the time, along with grain and tomato farming. Each day for turfgrass sod, your main duties will include harvesting turfgrass sod and loading it onto trucks with a forklift. You will assist customers who come to the field and need sod placed on their truck with a forklift and by hand-stacking the sod rolls onto the customer vehicle. You will also transport sod to delivery sites by semi and flatbed trailer. Once daily sod harvest is completed, you may also perform additional turfgrass sod-related duties such as mowing, fertilizing, repairing pallets, organizing the field, irrigation, servicing machinery, and moving equipment. During tomato season, additional duties may include tilling, transplanting, tending the sprayer or fertilizer spreader, sorting harvested tomatoes, transporting equipment by tractor or pickup truck, harvesting, and delivery of product by semi to processing facility within 150 miles. For corn and soybeans, duties may include tilling, planting, spraying, irrigation, and fertilizing, harvesting, transporting, and servicing machinery and grain facility. Other duties include performing maintenance on property and equipment. This includes cleaning the shop, cleaning equipment, power washing, pallet repairs, grading field lanes, mowing roadsides, landscape work around the farm, spraying weeds, tree removal, surface drainage work, building repairs, grain bin management, servicing irrigation equipment, and drain tile installation. Per state regulations, employer is exempt from a commercial CDL requirement for farm trucking. No commercial or heavy truck driving is required. Employer may pay performance-based incentive bonuses at the end of the contract period at employer’s discretion. Employer may provide pay increases for longevity and experience.

Special Requirements

Job requires 3 months experience with the following: operating large farm machinery, heavy equipment experience, operating excavator, semi-truck driving, forklift operation, precision Ag GPS technology. Employees must have high school diploma or GED, good vision, regular drivers license, and ability to read English well-enough to pass the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles Written Knowledge Exam and Driving Test, a positive attitude, must be able to do repetitive movements, and be able to lift 60 lbs (27.25 kg).
