Job description

Burley Tobacco: Duties to include, but not limited to: greenhouse care, setting, topping, oiling, cutting, housing and stripping. Workers will be trained for a period of two days (14 hours) after which the worker will be expected to cut 100 sticks per hour - does not include dropping sticks in the field.
Dark Fired Tobacco: Duties to include, but not limited to: greenhouse care, setting, topping, oiling, cutting, housing and stripping. Workers will be required to cut wood and carry to barn to fire the tobacco. Wooden slabs covered with sawdust are placed under the tobacco that is hanging in the barn. Slabs are fired to smoke the tobacco and this process is repeated until the tobacco becomes the appropriate color. Workers will remove remaining ashes after the tobacco is fired. Workers are required to cut/spike 50-60 sticks per hour.
Air Cured Tobacco: Duties to include, but not limited to: greenhouse care, setting, topping, oiling, cutting, housing and stripping.
Other Related Duties for all types of tobacco: Workers may chop weeds between plants with hoe; remove tops and suckers from plants, apply side dressing.
The employer will train new workers in seeding, setting, cutting, housing and stripping tobacco for a period of two days (14 hours). A trained worker is expected to cut 100 sticks per hour for burley tobacco and 50-60 sticks per hour for dark tobacco.
Forage: Duties to include, but not limited to: Soil preparation, operating tillage equipment, cutting equipment, hauling bales to storage barns/farms that purchase hay.
Planting, Cultivating & Harvesting Row Crop: Duties to include, but not limited to: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store grain crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans, etc. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, and drill to tractor and drive tractor in field to till soil and plant/cultivate crop. Perform a variety of other duties such as husking and shelling corn, lubricating and repairing farm machinery and unloading grain onto conveyors to storage bins and elevators. Assist in set-up of product for sale of crop.
Planting, Cultivating & Harvesting vegetables and fruits: Duties to include, but not limited to: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store vegetables. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, and drill to tractor and drive tractor in field to till soil and plant/cultivate crop. Perform a variety of other duties such as lubricating and repairing farm machinery. May plan and schedule plowing, cultivating and harvesting operations. Plant, cultivate, harvest and pack vegetables (boxes, buckets or crates). Lay plastic, setting plants, weeding (w/hoe and by hand), driving stakes, grading/sorting and activities associated with vegetable production. Assist in set-up of product for sale of crop.
Nursery: Duties to include, but not limited to: Perform any combination of the following duties concerned with preparing soil and growth media, cultivating and otherwise participating in horticulture activities. Hauls and spreads topsoil, fertilizer, etc. to condition land. Dig, rake and screen soil and fill cold frames and hot beds to prepare them for planting. Plant, spray, weed and water plants, shrubs, and trees. Ties, bunches, wraps and packs flowers, plants and shrubs to fill orders. Load trucks for marketing. Work on potting line transplanting seedlings into selling containers and place in growing areas. Assist with delivery of product to customer. Maintenance on farm equipment required in operation. Assist in set-up of product for sale of crop.

Special Requirements

Job Requirements: Physically able to bend, stoop and able to stand on feet for long periods of time. Physically able to meet and perform all job specifications.
