Job description

Workers /drivers with a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) and able to obtain an insurable driver's license will be required to drive company vehicles and deliver our plant products as well as move equipment and materials to and from our locations. Workers with appropriate Class B licenses and a valid doctor's certificate will drive class B trucks. Workers with a Class A Commercial License will drive both Class A and Class B vehicles. All workers/drivers must follow federal legal driving regulations and may include using ELD.

Workers/drivers must be able to read, understand and communicate in English and have good communication and people skills in order to provide the excellent customer service our clients expect when our trucks arrive with their orders. This includes unloading racks of plants and counting the order as delivered, picking up plastic flats and pots that the customer has for return to the nursery and handling all paperwork involved in a courteous manner. The worker/driver must be able to comprehend the paperwork and keep it well organized. Workers must have a working knowledge of modern cell phones/tablets as they will be used for on the road communication with the Blooming Nursery Shipping Department and our clients.

Workers/drivers must be capable of performing both a pre and post trip vehicle inspection, including refueling, and report any issues to the appropriate departments. Workers/drivers must have an effective knowledge of securing loads within box trucks, trailers, and flatbeds with security straps and/or support bars. They will be expected to load and unload trucks with nursery stock, materials, and vegetables weighing up to 50 lbs. and lifting to a height of 5 feet and sometimes overhead, including loading empty wooden pallets They will be required to keep truck interiors and exteriors safe, clean, and orderly. Workers/drivers must be able to organize and store materials such as travel logs, order, or client paperwork, etc. Workers/drivers must have experience delivering product to customers. Workers/drivers must work to prevent product damage from mishandling both while loading, unloading, or when rearranging loads. If damage does occur, it must be noted and reported upon return to the nursery.

While the overall majority of the worker/driver’s time will be spent transporting plants, equipment and materials, there will be some hours or days where there are insufficient loads to keep them working full time. When this occurs, the worker/driver will assist the Maintenance Department with equipment and facility maintenance tasks, or they may assist in the movement of plant material within the nursery or from site to site.

Workers/drivers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching above and below shoulder height, rotation while sitting or standing, climbing into or out of trucks or using stairs. Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day, while driving or on the nursery. Temperatures may range from 25 to 100 F. Workers/drivers may be required to work or drive during occasional to frequent showers/snow/wind not severe enough to stop nursery operations. Workers/drivers may be exposed to fumes from machinery, loud noises, heights, slippery and moving surfaces and narrow aisles. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations.

Special Requirements

Worker must possess CDL or equivalent license or be able to obtain CDL. Workers/drivers must have experience delivering product to customers. Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job reference(s) or comparable third-party documentation from recent employer(s) establishing acceptable prior experience.
