Job description

The farming operation is seasonal as planting and spraying begins in the March till May timeframe. Small grain harvest usually occurs from late July until early September, then soybean and corn harvest follows in late September till November. The livestock operation is seasonal in that we run a cow/ calf operation. We start calving heifers in March and then our cows start calving in April and continue until early June. We then castrate and give shots to calves in June before we start grazing them for the summer. We also give shots September and October before weaning and selling the calves in November. After November, no further care of cattle is needed.

Job duties will include: prepare fields for planting, attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools, operate tractors, planters, seed drills, manure spreaders, operate other farm equipment, engage in planting, weeding, spraying and/or harvesting activities, load and unload crops or materials, manually or using conveyors, handtrucks, forklifts, or transfer augers, load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks, mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into machinery, load crops and unload crops, operate equipment to harvest crops, drive pickup trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals, herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures, inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences, mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos, shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food, clean equipment or facilities, maintain operational records, operate farming equipment, transport animals, crops, or equipment. Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.

Special Requirements

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must have a regular driver's license. Requires 3 months farm experience.
