Job description

Our operation is primarily a cotton farm. We plant wheat or rye as a winter cover crop after cotton harvest for conservation tillage purposes. Cotton is planted in late May and early June, and then harvested in the fall. The bulk of our work happens between March when we begin preparing the land for planting and then ends in December as we conclude harvest. Job duties will include: prepare fields for planting, attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools, operate tractors, planters, seed drills, irrigation equipment, operate other farm equipment, engage in planting, weeding, spraying and/or harvesting activities, irrigate soil, using portable pipes or ditch systems, and maintain ditches or pipes and pumps, install, maintain and repair pivot irrigation systems, load and unload crops or materials, manually or using conveyors, handtrucks, forklifts, or transfer augers, load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks, manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery, mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into machinery, observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions, attach equipment extensions or accessories, operate equipment to harvest crops, complete maintenance and repairs on irrigation equipment, record agricultural data, drive pickup trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools, inspect, adjust, and complete routine maintenance and repairs on equipment. Employee will also help maintain farm and irrigation equipment. This includes cleaning the equipment and general maintenance. This also includes checking drip irrigation systems and fixing water leaks. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion. Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.

Special Requirements

Job requires extensive sitting or walking. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must have a regular driver's license. Requires 2 months farm experience.
