Job description
Construction laborers and helpers typically do the following:
• Clean and prepare construction sites by removing debris and possible hazards as well as general housekeeping and demolition of
• Load or unload building materials to be used in construction.
• Build or take apart bracing, scaffolding, and temporary structures.
• Dig trenches, backfill holes, or compact earth to prepare for construction of barns.
• Operate or tend equipment and machines used in construction of barns.
• Follow construction plans and instructions from supervisors or more experienced workers.
• Assist craftworkers (install, concrete, framing) with their duties.
• Assist with install curtains on barns, installing feed bins, installing pinning and other barn equipment and barn operations.
• May operate company pickup trucks with flatbed trailer or company van to/from job site to deliver supplies.
• Assist with taking apart equipment, cleaning up sites, and disposing of waste, as well as helping with any other needs of craftworkers.
• May assist with operating loader, skid steer, tow motor forklift, standard forklift, mini excavator, power light stations, air compressor, concrete spread machine, generator, extenda boom, tractor, insulation machine
• May use or assist with the use of the following tools: electric jack hammers, laser leveler, saw, hammer drills, grinder, nail gain, rebar gun, hammer, hand float, bull float, concrete vibrator, sledgehammer, knife, sander, welder, tape measure, nail puller, staplegun, wrench, screwdriver, metal sheer, metal cutter, tinsnips, transit, prybar, posthole digger, weed eater, pick, shovel, lawnmower, plyers, mallets, caulk guns, bush hog
Construction laborers and helpers work on almost all construction sites, performing a wide range of tasks varying in complexity from very easy to extremely difficult and hazardous.
Construction laborers perform a wide variety of construction-related activities during all phases of construction. Many laborers spend their time preparing and cleaning up construction sites, using tools such as shovels and brooms.
With special training, laborers may help transport or help prepare ground site for future construction of barns.
GENERAL CONDITIONS: Constructions work begins at assigned time shortly after daylight. Work is performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 100 (+) degrees to below 35 degrees F. Workers will work on their feet in bent position for long periods of time. Workers will frequently lift weights of 75 lbs. Workers will be expected to kneel, bend, stoop, crawl, climb, walk, twist, reach, stretch for extended periods of time. Workers must be able to work at elevated heights. Workers must have good hand-eye coordination and must be able to grasp, move or assemble small and large objects. Workers will supply their own work clothes. Steel toed boots will be provided by the company and must be worn at job site at all times along with other PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs. All the tasks in this Job Description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated.
Special Requirements
All applicants must have at least 3 months experience working in construction. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
