Job description
Feeding horses, bringing in and out of fields, foaling mares from March through June, assisting with veterinarian with pregnancy, fence repair, weed eating, brushing and grooming of horses. Watering, taking care of bedding, making sure fencing is secure. Helping ferrier. Handling horses, teaching horses how to walk and teaching them manners. Uses pitchfork, rake, broom, lead shank, twitch, hammer, nails and chainsaw. May drive tractor.
Special Requirements
Three months experience as a thoroughbred caregiver required. Workers must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently. All necessary equipment with be provided: leads, shanks, halters, pitch fork, broom, rake, grooming tools, curry comb, brush. Workers are provided a two-day break-in period to acclimate to the demands of the job. Workers must be physically fit to perform job duties without succumbing to excessive exhaustion after break-in period. Workers will be provided safety training and will be expected to handle tools/equipment safely and carefully so as to avoid damage and to protect the worker from potential injury. No smoking, alcohol or illegal weapons or controlled substances in the worksite or in the houses. Able to stoop, bend, and work in cold and wet conditions. Safety use and training provided by employer. Workers must abide by Employer housing rules.
