Job description
Pecan Orchard/Maintenance - Duties may consist of picking up tree limbs and debris, applying fertilizer by hand, pruning pecan trees, planting trees, weed removal around orchards with weed eaters and mowers. Workers will also mow orchards with a tractor. During harvest, duties include cleaning the orchard for harvest, harvesting pecans, and cleaning pecans. Tractors will be used to harvest pecans. Pecan cleaning equipment will be used for cleaning pecans. Workers will also use shovels, chain saws, pole saws, tree pruners, backpack blowers, grafting knives, utility vehicle, tractor, tying tool for use with staking trees, forklifts, rakes, pecan dryers, tree shakers, pecan sprayers, backpack sprayers, pecan cleaners, and pecan harvester with tractor.
Row Crop Production: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to clear, plant, cultivate, harvest, and store grain crops such as corn and soybeans. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, drill, planter, cultivator, along with any and all row crop equipment. Job duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: shovel, level, haul, spread rock, dig holes, ditches, and trenches, mowing and trimming grass, using hand tools such as shovels, trawls, hoes, grass trimmer, mower, pruning hooks, pruning shears, and knives, Duties may include tilling soil, transplanting, thinning, or pruning crops, and spraying insecticide, fungicide, and herbicide with an air blast sprayer on tractor and 4-wheeler. May also repair and maintain fences and existing farm buildings and irrigation system repairs and maintenance. Workers' duties will include the spreading of fertilizer or liquid manure. Workers may also clean and organize the shop, irrigate crops, fix fences, cut, and rake. Workers may also be mixing spray chemicals and loading them into the sprayer and spraying the High Cycle Sprayer. Drain water from fields with hand tools and shovels when needed. Maintain and clean all hand tools & mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Workers may be asked to transport workers to/from the housing unit to the worksite locations and to the grocery store each week.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Three (3) months experience in harvesting pecans, planting, cultivating, and harvesting corn and soybeans, use of mechanical harvesting, cultivating, and planting equipment. Employer may conduct criminal background checks on all new employees. A Valid Driver's License is required to operate farm's vehicles. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to the workers. Clean and maintain work areas. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phones can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and to communicate with the supervisor. Lifting requirement is from 5 to 60 lbs. Most of the workday is spent outdoors in agricultural fields and it involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold, and other natural elements.
