Job description

Job requires the operation of various tractors and farm equipment to till soil; work ground; prepare and maintain land; and plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, harvest, and transport crops to elevator or storage area. Equipment that workers may be required to operate includes, but is not limited to, tractors with various implements, sprayers, combines, back-hoes, mowers, track-hoes, and ATVs/side by sides. Non CDL farm trucks will be loaded with agricultural products and driven on the farm and to storage facilities. Duties include participating in irrigation activities including laying pipe, walking length of irrigation pipe to puncture it at set intervals, setting up and operating irrigation equipment, clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches, operating well motors, operating and maintaining pivots, draining excess water from fields, and monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops. Job may include tending to goats and pigs in the forms of feeding, vaccinating, spraying, examining, tagging, and branding. Typically, US employees and family member can handle work with goats and pigs on their own but the H-2A employees may assist with these duties when necessary. Employees will be receiving crop for drying and storage at grain storage facility; disposing of spoiled grain; transporting grain from fields to grain bins; loading and unloading grain into trucks while keeping grain level; operating augers and grain conveying equipment; monitoring grain moisture levels; preparing scale tickets; and shoveling grain. Manual duties include but are not limited to loading seed into planters; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; changing combine cutting heads; using hand tools in fields; welding; performing general maintenance, repairs and/or clean-up of storage sheds, pivot points, buildings, barns and all farm equipment; ensuring operational areas are organized and well maintained; using hand tools and equipment to repair, clean and maintain farm vehicles, machinery and specialized machinery and agricultural equipment; regularly servicing equipment; mowing and landscaping on the farm; performing construction duties on farm structures and farm housing; and lifting items as needed. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. The employer reserves the right to increase workers' pay or provide bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors that are solely based on the discretion of the employer.

Special Requirements

Employees must be able to lift 50 pounds since they will be loading poly pipe and filling planters. Drug screening may be done post-hire at the employer's expense to ensure safety on the operation. Criminal background check may be done post hire at the employers expense to protect the employer, other employees, and their equipment against being in the hands of someone who has been involved with drugs, theft, or worse as this equipment could be operated on public roads for short distances.
