Job description

Vineyard Worker (Wine Grapes) to perform the following crop activities for wine grapes:

Duties vary depending on the specific part of the growing season:

Work in the grape vineyards during the growing season (March through July 2024) will include Suckering, hoeing (long handled), tying, leaf pulling, tucking, planting, spraying, driving tractors, mowing.

Work in the grape vineyards during the harvest season (approximately August through October 2024) will include picking wine grapes and activities directly related to wine grape picking, including sorting wine grapes in the vineyards.

Work in the grape vineyards during the harvest season (approximately October through November 2024) will include pruning.

Non-harvest related activities continue during harvest time of the year but are not directly related to wine grape picking and include fence repair, trellis repair, post removal and replacement, drainage, field gutters, plant new vineyard including digging, raking, clean up and post pounding.

All job duties are closely and directly related to the cultivation of wine grapes. The larger percentage of the work activities will be related to general farmwork/irrigation/wine grape cultivation. Perform any combination of the following tasks required in general farmwork and the cultivation of wine grapes: assist with irrigating; maintain/drive/attach and operate farm tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, mulch, cut, fertilize, apply pesticides and harvest crops; maintenance of farm structures and farm grounds; operate maintain and repair all components of drip irrigation; removal of excess plant growth from farm grounds; shovel and pack dirt in low spots or cut trenches to direct water flow; use proper material and methods to repair irrigation equipment.

Special Requirements

Workers must be able to lift 80 lbs frequently. No smoking or illegal weapons or controlled substances in the vineyards or in the houses. Cannot be color blind due to the need to distinguish colors of crops. Able to stoop, bend, and work in cold, wet, or hot conditions. Able to use tools such as pruning shears, grape knives, hand saws, weed eaters, hedgers, shovels. Workers may use chains saws. Safety use and training provided by employer. Workers must abide by Employer housing rules. Workers must be able to communicate in English or Spanish for training and safety purposes. (i.e. Workers must listen to, understand and follow instructions of Employer supervisors and managers.)
