Job description

Harvest brood fish from holding pond and transfer to a brood pond. Monitor brood ponds visually for disease outbreaks and predatory birds daily. Repair spawning containers and place into brood ponds. Check spawning containers and remove spawns from containers and deposit into aerated transport tank. Move spawns to the hatchery prepared and place into the hatching troughs. Monitor hatchery daily, clean hatching troughs , feed fry 12-18 times daily. Clean and disinfect hatching basket after use. Transfer fry to nursery ponds. Visually monitor ponds for presence of infectious disease, predatory birds and predatory insects. Feed nursery ponds by hand and feeder multiple times per day. After spawning, remove spawning containers and consolidate brood fish to holding ponds. Monitor water temperature and oxygen levels in the holding and fingerling ponds; feed the fingerlings and brood stock fish; maintain pond areas by removing weeds, grass, etc. Alternative work includes general farm maintenance, cleaning shed areas, etc.

Special Requirements

Work is outside (both cold and hot), work in water, able to swim-ponds are 4-6 deep. Some heavy lifting (30 lbs.) Hours of work may vary due to weather conditions etc. Use various types of nets and/or seines to catch fish, uses mowers, hoes, shovels, Alternate work includes cleaning shed areas, removing debris from farm areas, repairing sheds, etc. Able to perform physically demanding job duties. Must be available for entire contract period and able to perform all job duties. Hours of work may vary due to job duties. Applicants meeting all qualifications required must possess documents to complete INS Form I-9 and be available at time and place necessary to begin employment.
