Job description

Our season starts in January when cattle are pulled from grazing and confined for calving and our annual sale. Once a year in February we have our bull sale on our farm. We need assistance with preparation for our annual bull sale. This includes processing cattle, grooming, taking pictures, and videoing of cattle. Assist with performance information on cattle. Prepare sale and calving pens. Our calving season starts in February and runs until May. During this time employees will need to be sorting cows that are close to calving and aiding those that need it. Monitor cows and calves for illness and treat as needed. Pen cow/calf pairs and tag/tattoo accordingly. Mix feed rations and run the loader and feed wagon to deliver feed to pens. Treat sick or hurt livestock with antibiotics. Assist with pregnancy ultrasound day where we ultrasound cows. Assist with snow removal, bedding of pens, checking/maintaining water tanks as needed per weather conditions. Maintain mineral and creep feed. Give vaccinations to cattle. Assist with castration and branding of cattle. In July cattle are sent to pasture where they will remain until January. Before cattle are released to pastures employees will need to repair fence and maintaining pastures. After cattle are sent to pastures employees will use loader tractor to pile manure in the pens. Assist with hauling manure to be spread on the fields in preparation for planting. In the summer employee will assist with breeding cows and hauling out to pastures. In September we need employees to assist with weaning of calves. Operate farm equipment to plant, harvest and haul harvested crops/hay. In May employees will assist with planting corn, peas, oats, etc. In June we start with putting up alfalfa, grass hay, etc. Run cutter, rake, and baler. Haul hay to yard from hay field with semi-truck with a trailer and hay trailer. Pressure wash equipment and perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment. Assist with corn chopping and preparing silage pile.

Special Requirements

Job requires extensive sitting and exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. We conduct post-hire drug testing at no cost to the employees to enforce a drug free workplace policy. Failing a drug test will result in termination. We also conduct post-hire background checks at no cost to the employee and will not employ anyone with a violent/theft criminal background. Require 2 months experience and a regular drivers license.
