Job description
Bus driver (Shuttle Bus Driver) (SOC code 53-3053.00) to perform the following duties: Bus driver will transport passengers to and from work each day from housing, to the nearest town for shopping on weekends, transport food from the kitchen to the field/housing when necessary, pick up food/kitchen supplies and delivery between housing locations. The bus drivers will return to the worksite each day. May be asked to log times in and out for workers. Arrange to pick up particular customers or groups on a regular schedule. Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order. Communicate with dispatchers by radio, telephone, or computer to exchange information. Complete accident reports when necessary. Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner. Follow relevant safety regulations and state laws governing vehicle operation and ensure that passengers follow safety regulations. Notify dispatchers or company mechanics of vehicle problems. Perform minor vehicle repairs, such as cleaning spark plugs, or take vehicles to mechanics for servicing. Perform routine vehicle maintenance, such as regulating tire pressure and adding gasoline, oil, and water. Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption, or fares received. Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions. Record vehicle routes. Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort. Report any vehicle malfunctions or needed repairs. Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile two-way radios. Test vehicle equipment, such as lights, brakes, horns, or windshield wipers, to ensure proper operation. Vacuum and clean interiors and wash and polish exteriors. Employer complies with the California and Oregon health and safety rules applicable. Employee must conduct daily maintenance check prior to operating busses and vans to transport farm workers. The employer will provide training, the CDL Certification and the passenger endorsement certification, and all costs will be the responsibility of the employer. Training will be provided by the transportation consultant or other authorizing agent. Once the training is completed and all regulatory certificates are obtained the worker will be allowed to transport employees. Workers may occasionally and/or sporadically perform duties associated with and directly related to the primary duties, such work will be temporary and unsubstantial agricultural labor.
Special Requirements
Only drivers who possess valid drivers licenses pursuant to California law will participate in driving. The employer will be responsible for the cost of the California Drivers License. The employee must have the ability to obtain a California Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and a DL 45 Passenger Endorsement by the state of California. The employee may be required to speak English/Spanish in order to obtain certifications. The employee must be able to obtain the Medical Examiners Certificate, documenting that the driver is physically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle and retain the certificate for 3 years beyond the issue date of the certificate required by Department of Transportation (DOT) The employee will be required to participate in the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse program which includes pre-employment assessment, post-accident testing, random tests, and reasonable suspicion tests.
