Job description
Position Description for Delivery Driver, Light Truck
Delivering fresh produce, that is grown on our farm in Southwest Michigan, to restaurants and wholesale customers, primarily in the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
Drivers will be delivering agricultural product grown by employer to market within a 100-mile radius, each way, of the primary worksite. Involves safe driving, fueling, and maintaining 22' straight truck with a capacity of less than 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), for delivery of agricultural products from farm to market.
Drivers will start and end each day at the listed place of employment. Shift starting and-or ending times may vary, depending on weather and traffic conditions.
Maneuvering of 100 – 460 lb rolling carts within truck loading/unloading areas on uneven surfaces. Loading/unloading of rolling carts from loading area onto docking bays and lift gates; loading of product onto and off of delivery trucks, to and from racks at market locations.
The delivery route, which begins and ends at the farm, may vary daily, depending upon traffic and number of stops. Therefore, the length of shifts may vary each day. The job is seasonal, approximately 6 months per year. Employer may request, but not require, that workers work more than the stated daily hours, on the worker's Sabbath, or on Federal holidays. Additional hours are voluntary.
Driver Requirements
Drivers must possess a valid driver’s license for operating a 22’ straight truck with a capacity of less than 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), meeting the requirements of a valid driver’s license issued by any U.S. state or a valid U.S. commercial driver’s license (“CDL”) or its acceptable international equivalent (CDL accepted but not required).
The driver is responsible for matching invoices to product orders to ensure correct deliveries, amounts and billing. This requires the ability to communicate in the English language. Timelines, organization and taking responsibility for all aspects are critical for carrying out duties properly.
Must possess good organizational skills for planning and executing daily driving and delivery activities.
Being on time and reliable are important responsibilities of the job. Drivers must have the skills and patience to drive in heavy traffic. Manual labor of light, medium, and sometimes heavy lifting is required.
