Job description
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties found in SOC Code 45-2092 Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery, and Greenhouse; SOC Code 45-2093 Farmworkers, Farm, Ranch and Aquacultural Animals; as well as SOC Code 45-2091 Agricultural Equipment Operators, and are related to the production of potatoes, hay, wheat, barley and livestock.
The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production.
Worker may: perform a variety of duties such as lead and oversee crews; operate and conduct general maintenance duties on farm vehicles and specialized equipment; communicate by use of hand signals for start, stop, speed up or slow down, etc.; maintain detailed task related records; operate grain augers and sweep; operate a wheel loader; operate GPS tracking system in tractors; operate advanced technology tractor, grain/hay/potato planters and harvesters; attach/adjust and pull header platforms for spring/fall ground work plus for planting and harvest work; maintain correct planting/cultivating and harvester adjustments required by constantly changing fields and conditions; maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements/tractors/truck and equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, distribute/fertilize and harvest crops; make mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery pertaining to each crop; may mix and/or spray/apply chemicals/fertilizer (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); set up fertilizer tanks, prepare fertilizer pumps, load/transport fertilizer to pivot tanks and monitor/record daily usage; remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair farm structures; maintain/repair fencing; remove rocks from rows in front of planting/harvesting equipment; discard diseased/rotting product, rocks and foreign matter; perform general cleanup of farm areas; drive, load/unload farm/Ag exempt, non CDL 10-wheel trucks on, or between, farm worksites; operate all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.
Worker will: assist in planting and summer duties maintaining a clean, rock and weed free work area around all farming locations; maintain farm properties by mowing lawn, pulling weeds or raking and trimming of bushes and trees; wash/sanitize potato and grain storage facilities.
Duties related to the Cutting/Sorting of Seed Potatoes will include the following:
Will apply techniques as instructed by the employer to cut and sort potatoes by: using knife to cut potato into sections; place potatoes on machine that cuts potatoes into sections; load/maintain seed treatment machine; push button to start machinery; tend/ monitor machine to insure proper movement of product; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; report malfunctions; general cleanup; operate equipment to load truck.
Special Requirements
Applicants must have 20 days experience with farm/irrigation work and the cutting of seed potatoes and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid Drivers License as driving on public roads may be required. To meet minimum acceptable performance standards when irrigating, the worker must, after a 10-day conditioning period, move an average of at least 48 40-foot sections of 3-inch pipe or 44 40-foot sections of 4-inch pipe per hour under normal working conditions
