Job description
Drive heavy tractor-trailer trucks to transport and deliver loads of fiber. The Gross Vehicle Weight capacity of the truck is 117,000 pounds. Load, level, clean-out cargo with pitch fork, shovel or broom and re-position clean out tarp. Climb ladder to check loads and tarp & unload cargo. Maintain cleanliness of truck at all times and operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer’s products and property. Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid, performing minor repairs, changing tires, brake jobs, engine maintenance, washing trucks, or performing emergency roadside repairs. Perform pre-trip and post trip inspection of tractor trailer/cargo loads. Maintain time card of drive time and must take a 30 minute lunch break recording daily in accordance with NYS law. Also maintain vehicle services, and or repair status in accordance with DOT requirements and company policies. Keep accurate and daily records of mileage slips, delivery slips and inspection sheets to be turned into the office at the end of each work day. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. Must wear steel toe boots provided by employee. Must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing, pants or jeans (no shorts), and steel toe boots. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work. Hard Hats, Safety vests, safety glasses and any hearing protection will be supplied by employer. Outdoor work is required during all four seasons of the year. Drivers will be allowed to use the tractor trailer to and from work not included in daily hours worked. Work Schedule 10-14 hour days, not to exceed 14 hours kept track of by employee and employer, 57 ½ Hours Per Week, Monday – Sunday, morning shift 3:30 am – 3:30 pm, afternoon shift 6:00 am – 6:00 pm. All work schedules are 5 days a week with 2 days off with the exception of possible Saturdays due to scheduling availability. These days may vary. Shift allocation will be communicated to each worker before the first day of work and will depend on availability.
Special Requirements
Requires six months of driving heavy and tractor-trailer experience. Must lift/carry 75 lbs., when necessary. Saturday and Sunday work required, when necessary. Employer-paid drug testing required of foreign and domestic workers prior to commencing work and post-hire at random, upon suspicion of use, and post-accident. Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL license (or equivalent) within 30 days of hire. Employer may offer more than the stated work hours depending on weather, business needs, and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold, rain, or drought may affect exact working hours.
