The trenches, when needed, are dug solely by hand. No equipment or machinery is required other than the use of a manual shovel. The depth of the trenches ranges from 4 to 6 inches. The largest depth would be 42 inches for the laying of footers. This would again be dug with manual shovels. The purpose of the trench/digging is for the laying of footers and flatwork.

Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces/forms to support sides of excavations. Clean debris, rubble and waste materials. Operate a variety of hand tools, including but not limited to: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers. Smooth or finish freshly poured cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools. Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts. Mix ingredients to create compounds for covering or cleaning surfaces. Mix, pour, or spread concrete, using portable cement mixers.
