Fiber optic splicing technician requirements: Onsite operating splice machine to build splice case enclosure and terminate fiber optic to customer specifications with capability to read and interpret splice documentation. A fiber optic fusion splicer is a device that uses an electric arc to melt two optical fibers together at their end faces, to form a single long fiber. The device costs at our company costs $2000.00 and the worker will look into a magnified screen and combine different color of fiber according to customer specifications. The worker will then take the appropriate fibers and enclose them in cases where the fibers are crossed, looped and/or arranged according to specifications so that the wires terminate in proper locations for additional line connections. Lift and carry cable 25 lbs for 25 feet. Repetitive motions such as bending and reaching. Standing entire day. Cannot be color blind because fibers are color coated. Excellent eyesight required to observe minute fibers. Ability to adapt to changing work environments (cold and warm weather). Also, must have the ability to communicate with management on daily production.
