Job description
Workers will plant and cultivate vegetables, berries, salad greens and field crops both manually and by operating tractors and tractor drawn machinery. Must be able to: determine when crops are ripe and harvest by hand without bruising the produce or damaging the plants; lift & carry 50 lbs. consistently throughout the day; bend, stoop and stand on feet for hours to weed, harvest, and wash crops; work in temperatures as low as 25 degrees; work in rain; use hand tools, shovels, trowels, hoes, shears, and knives to harvest, transplant, or weed without damage to the plants or roots; use a ladder; understand simple instruction in English in order to not endanger themselves or others while working around or on equipment & inform the farmer of crop progress; identify plants and pests; record information about crops and yield; and work as a team member. Daily work may include: application of non-restricted pesticides; cleaning, packing and loading harvested products; repair of farm buildings; operation and minor repair of tractors and self-propelled machinery that mow, harrow, fertilize and spray crops; and operation of irrigation equipment such as pumps and sprinklers. Workers must only use cell phones during lunch and/or after work hours unless directed by the employer or in an emergency situation. 2 months experience in work listed required.
