Job description
Sort and load animals in a productive, safe, and efficient manner; use herding boards properly to move animals from pen to aisle; Accurately count animals onto trucks and verify with drivers the correct number of animals were loaded; Sanitization of barns, vehicles, and equipment utilizing appropriate machinery, disinfectants, and PPE; properly execute euthanasia procedures based on the size of the animal; operate machinery safely to move live and dead animals including skid loaders, dead carts, or others; ensure animals received have proper feed, water, and environment for optimal productivity; ensure livestock trucks have proper space, bedding, plugs, panels, etc. Before loading animals; annotate various information regarding loading/receiving times, number of live animals received, number of dead animals received, number of ill or injured animals, condition of animals upon being received, condition of trucks used for loading animals, and other relevant production data; Communicate with production manager issues related to the condition of received animals or trucks in which animals are transported; Learn and comply with company environmental, biosecurity, and safety policies and procedures in the performance of job duties; Read and understand the company emergency procedures and review the policy at worksites.
Special Requirements
A minimum of 3 months of experience as a livestock handler is required. Must be able to lift and/or move while lifting up to 50 lbs; ability to stand; walk; use hands or handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
