Job description
Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store grain crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans, etc. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, and drill to tractor. Drive tractor in field to till soil and plant / cultivate crop. Perform variety of other duties such as husking and shelling corn, lubricating and repairing farm machinery and unloading grain in storage bins and elevators. Assist in set-up of product for sale of crop. Operate tractors and farm implements required to plant, cultivate, and harvest hay, wheat and pulse crops; trucking is required to move crops to storage at harvest; may be required manually hoist/stack hay bales; pick rocks, repair/replace/build fence in rough terrain.Hay (alfalfa, mixed grass hay) is cut generally cut every 28 days, depending on weather conditions, in order to produce the high quality hay needed for livestock. Worker(s) may operate machinery to mow, rake, and square/round bale hay. Worker( s) may be required to move along rows of previously baled hay, bending, stooping and lifting 50 to 100 lb bales; load and stack bales onto a truck, trailer or wagon in orderly manor; move tractor or truck in the field incidental to loading. Worker(s) may be required to unload the bales of hay and place in an orderly manner in a shed or barn loft as directed by the employer. Operate machinery to move and stack rolls of hay in an orderly manor in storage barns. Worker(s) may be required to operate machinery to plow, disc, and otherwise prepare ground for seeding. Worker(s) may be required to operate machinery to broadcast fertilizer or operate seed drill for seeding or reseeding. Worker(s) may be required to manually remove weeds from the hay field or spray by hand or machine to kill unwanted plant growth. . . Operate tractors, power tools and other equipment to clear out and install new fences for pastures. May operate tractors and/or manually load and unload cut trees, brush and debris before installing new fences. May use power tools and other equipment to set up fed toffs. Perform any combination of the following tasks to attend to livestock and farming operation: Feeding (no feeding required when cattle are out on summer pasture unless drought conditions arise and pastures dries up), checking and refilling mineral bins, sorting, herding, vaccinating, fencing and other general care for livestock; monitor, care for and move livestock using 4-wheelers and/or side-by-sides to pastures for grazing; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; calving checks; place mineral blocks; vaccinate livestock, herd into corral and/or stall and manually restraining animals; apply medications to cuts and bruises; spray livestock with insecticide; assist with castration of livestock; clip identifying notches or brand animals; manually clean stalls/corrals. Shop work is required such as repairing and maintaining equipment and welding; perform routine maintenance and cleaning of farm implements.
Special Requirements
The employer will train the workers for a period of two day after which the worker will be expected to work without constant supervision.
Tools and Equipment:
The employer will furnish, without charge, all tools, supplies, and equipment required in the performance of the specified work.
Workers will be charged for any willful damage or loss of such tools, equipment and housing.
