Job description

Hand Harvesting Watermelons: Workers will walk and cut quality ripe watermelons for the loaders to walk behind and load in the field buses. This operation consists of lifting and handling heavy watermelons all day long. One guy will catch the watermelons in the bus, and the whole crew will rotate throwing and catching watermelons until the bus is full. Once the bus is full the same steps will repeat again. Workers will then go pack their own buses or have a crew pack for them at the packing shed. Only quality USDA-grade melons owned by the farmer will be packed. The rest will be discarded. Workers are required to lift at least 75 pounds as the chep blue pallets needed to be placed under the box can weight up to 75 pounds.

Did you know that... most J-1 workers who work more than 40 hours a week

(and in some states, more than 8 hours a day), can get paid "time and a half?"
