Job description
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by the supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Workers will drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, and store grain crops. Attach farm implements, such as plow, disc and drill to tractor. Attach farm implements or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools. Plant and cultivate grain such as rice, soybeans, corn, milo, and wheat. Walk beside or ride on planting machines while inserting plants in planter mechanisms at specified intervals. Workers will be responsible for operating grain bin facilities. Workers will do pre-harvest grain bin maintenance. Inspect inside/outside of bins, making sure the door is sealing properly with no visible gaps. Inspect ladders and steps for loose bolts, broken ladder rungs, and clear them of all obstructions. Workers will check for birds’ nests, cracked belts, rough sounds in the motor, and any divots in the track. Guide products on conveyors to regulate flow through machines, and to discard diseased or rotten products. Load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks. Position boxes or attach bags at discharge ends of machinery to catch products, removing and closing full containers. Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers. Weigh crop-filled containers, and record weights and other identifying information. Irrigate soil, using portable pipes or ditch systems, and maintain ditches, pipes and pumps. Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment. Workers will drive/operate and use the following farming equipment and tools: tractors, shovel, scoop, 4 wheelers, track line, power units, side by side, pickup trucks, shop tools, poly pipe and self-propelled combine. Operate tow machines such as seed drills or manure spreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops. Workers will provide various duties such as doing minor repairs and service to farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions. Workers will drive grain trucks to transport crops to elevator or storage area on the farm, within 10 – 20 miles round trip, no CDL required.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Three (3) months experience required as Agricultural Equipment Operator. A valid drivers license is required to operate the companys vehicles. The employer may conduct a criminal background check pre-hire on all new applicants at the employers expense. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and communicated with supervisor when needed. Must be able to lift 75 100 lbs. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. Workers should expect periods of little/no work and hours/days will vary due to weather conditions beyond the employers control and daily hours may be extended due to planting and harvesting demands.
