Job description
Manually plant, cultivate, harvest field crops. Graft blueberry plants, prune blueberry bushes by hand using pruning shears, loppers and mechanical pruner. Inspect bushes for damage, disease or insect infestation and remove or replace as directed by farm manager. May also pick blueberries by hand or harvest by use of mechanical harvester equipment, load and transport blueberries to processing shed with trucks and trailers. Blueberries are perishable and must be picked and packed within a limited time of harvest. Load mulch on trailer and move to fields, unload and spread mulch around plants as needed. Inspect the field to maintain a 3 to 5 foot weed free strip between rows by removing weeds, grass, etc. using hoe or pulling by hand. Remove debris from fields using hoes, shovels, and basket. Inspect field irrigation systems, dig up and replace damaged pipes, valves, water jets, sprinklers, etc. using shovels, wrenches, etc. May fix existing roads and monitor frost protector to control airflow over fields. Worker may be required to perform miscellaneous packinghouse work, cleaning equipment, including. grading, stacking packed cartons, dumping fruit from cartons and constructing boxes. Packinghouse is part of the farm and owned by K & M Blueberry Farm and Nursery, which only their product will be going in/out of the packinghouse.
Special Requirements
Must be 18 years or older. The company may conduct criminal background checks on all new applicants for employment. Job requires 3 months experience in blueberries, nursery and/or greenhouse. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and communicated with supervisor when needed. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. There is a lifting requirement of 5-75 lbs. The majority of the day is spent on ones feet and outdoors. Workers must be able to stand, sit, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from waist), push, pull, and reach. Work in 0 degree to 100-degree temperatures and possibly rain. Safety training on tools and equipment will be provided, if necessary.
