Job description

Duties may vary from time to time. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Perform manual labor. Clear ground of rocks, sticks & roots by hand, clear brush and trees with chain saw. Manually cleaning weeds from potato fields with knives. Use wood to build and repair potato boxes. Drain water from fields with hand tools and shovel when needed. Set up, operate, and repair irrigation systems. Repair, maintain and clean all hand tools and mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Wash and clean farm buildings and equipment. Sweet Potatoes – Workers will be driving setting tractors, skid-steers, and pickups in the fields. Covering potatoes with use of bedding machine. Cover, punch holes, and remove plastic and paper from plant beds. Cut slips by hand with knife, place in boxes to load & unload onto trucks. Walk behind potato transplanter and fill in slips by hand. Riding mechanical transplanter and loading slips in planting cups. Divining plants by hand. Workers may drive other workers to/from the store/fields.

Special Requirements

Must be 18 years old or older. The employer may conduct a criminal background check. If driving, the workers will need a valid drivers license. A valid drivers' license is required to transport workers to fields and grocery store. Three (3) months experience needed in hand cutting slips and use of mechanical transplanter. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and communicated with supervisor when needed. Lifting requirement may have a range of 5 - 60 lbs. All tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Most of the workday is spent in agricultural fields and involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold, humid, and other natural elements.
