Job description

Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of hay and forage crops. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to truck driving. In order to legally perform the required job duties all workers under this contract must possess licensure appropriate for the operation of commercial motor vehicles in the United States, as required by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Truck driving responsibilities will include the following: drive gasoline or diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination, usually long distances, to transport and deliver agricultural products (primarily hay bales) between farms and processing facility; drive tractor with two trailers hitched in tandem; drive truck equipped with long-tongued trailer; apply knowledge of commercial driving regulations and area roads; inspect truck/trailer(s) for defects before and after trips and submit report indicating truck condition; drive, load/unload semi truck, including the use of equipment/tractors/loaders to assist in the task; assist others in loading/unloading truck; inspect loads to ensure cargo is secure; fit tarp over product; secure cargo for transport, using ropes blocks, chain, binders, or covers; maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions; wash/clean/maintain trucks and trailers; check vehicle to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure truck is working properly; inspect truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water and maintain/replace/replenish as needed; release ropes blocks, chains, binders, or covers to facilitate unloading of cargo; affix identification tag to bales of hay.
Workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.

Special Requirements

Applicants must have 6 months experience driving semi-trucks and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance.
