Job description
Manually plant, cultivate, (staking and tying, harvest vegetables, fruits, horticultural specialties, and field crops. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops; applying pesticides; or cleaning, grading, sorting, packing, and loading harvested products. May construct trellises, do minor repairs to fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities. Packing House is part of the farm. Prune, take cuttings for propagation, load trucks, repair drip irrigation, nursery and greenhouse work, transplanting, trimming, spacing, plant propagation, spray irrigation work, weed, dig ditches, daily farm maintenance, clean production areas and facilities. Plant produce by hand placing into pre-dug holes along rows. Inform managers of crop progress. Workers will stake and tie. Set up and operate irrigation equipment. Remove stakes, string, and plastic. Operate, do minor repairs, clean and maintain farm equipment and vehicles. Machine harvest blueberries. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Workers are expected to possess the skill to work in the production of crops listed. The introductory period for all work and to familiarize workers with job specifications and to demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop specific issues. Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by their supervisor. Workers must take care to handle tools, equipment, and produce in a manner to avoide injury or damage. The employer will comply with all federal, state, and local safety requirements. Operational specifications can change during the season due to crop or market conditions. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each day's work. Instruction and general supervision will be provided by the employer or a designated employee. Workers will have close supervision to ensure adherence to instructions. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality. Daily individual work assignments, crew assignments, and location of work will be made by the employer or designated employees as the needs of the operation dictate. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties and different tasks on different days. Workers may transport the crop to the packing house which is part of the farm. Workers with driving authorizations may be asked to drive workers to/from housing, worksites, and grocery store.
Special Requirements
Three-month experience in manually Planting, Cultivating, Harvesting, and packing fruits, horticultural specialties, and field crops, greenhouse and nursery work. Valid drivers license required to operate vehicles. Workers must be 18 years or older. The employer may conduct a criminal background checks on all new applicants for employment. (Owner's Expense) All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. lifting requirement of up to 40 lbs. Workers may be offered more than the standard hours of work in a single workday. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. Hours of work may increase/decrease depending on crop yield and or weather and can occur at any time throughout the season. The majority of the workday is spent on ones feet.
