Job description

The Cane Berry Crew employee performs general ranch maintenance. The position follows company policies and standards and adheres to all safety practices and requirements. The position ensures clean work areas that are free of objects that may cause accidents.

Ranch Maintenance, to include but not limited to:
• Covering up dirt holes
• Keeping ranch roads clean
• Maintain and guide plants to ensure that threads are secure to allow the plant to spread
• Planting Maintenance during, before, and after harvest season, to include but not limited to:
o Planting
o Weeding
o Pruning
o Trimming
o Preparing plants for harvesters
• Building and Dismantling Hoops, to include but not limited to:
o Remove plastic, stakes, threads, irrigation system, post and wood stands.
o Prepare land for next season.
o Keep plants ventilated (pulling plastic up and down).
• Assist irrigators with installing irrigation system and repair of any damaged irrigation hoses.
• Help apply fertilizers.
• May be required to harvest, when necessary and as requested by production requirements.
• Repair fences and nets.
• Replace wood sticks stands when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

The workers will complete weed removal job duties for less than 20% of their weekly work time. Employer will provide training to perform the weed removal job duties. Employer complies with California laws applicable to hand weeding.

Special Requirements

Three months of experience in cultural activities related to cane berries. Cannot be color blind due to the need to distinguish colors of crops for proper ripeness and maturity, no smoking, illegal drugs, alcohol, or weapons of any sort in the housing or work fields. Ability to communicate in English or Spanish is required for training and safety purposes. Work is performed outdoors in open fields and can involve exposure to sun, wind, mud, dust, heat, cold and other elements of the normal field environment. Temperatures can range from 50 degrees F to over 90 degrees F during the period of employment. Workers should come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for the work and working conditions described.
