Job description
Duties for workers will be to: plant, harvest, hand pick, sort, grade, count, clean, pack, load and unload variety of peppers, eggplants, tomato, and squash. Apply chemical and fertilizer. Install, maintain, operate, regulate and repair irrigation equipment. Install/remove items required in plasticulture. Pre harvest duties include: tilling soil, weeding, rake, watering and perform field clean up/maintenance. Workers will lay sticks, destake, string crop, cut string lay and take up plastic. Operate tractor, tractor draw machinery and self propelled machinery to plow, harrow, fertilize, apply chemicals, plant, cultivate or harvest crops. Operate, repair, and maintain farm vehicles, implements and mechanical equipment. Repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures. Work in inclement weather (rain, heat, cold, hot, humid) weather may fluctuate work hours (+/-); possible downtimes. Walk down rows with plant tray and manually plants seeds or plants into the ground and cover with dirt. Walk behind the machine making sure all holes are filled and covered. workers will utilize hand tools such as shovels, shears, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, buckets, knives and various cultivation tools. Workers will pick produce using buckets which will then be carried to dump into a bin on a trailer pulled by a tractor. Three months of farm work experience is required. Workers will be required to lift and carry minimum 50lbs . Perform repetitive walking, stooping, bending and reaching for prolonged periods of time. Workers are expected to posses the skills to work in the production of crops listed in this job order. The introductory period for all crop activities is 2 days starting with the first day of employment to acclimate the worker to the physical demands of farm and to familiarize workers with the job specifications and to demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop specific issues. Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor. Workers must take care to handle tools, equipment and produce in a manner to avoid injury or damage. The employer will comply with all federal, state and local safety requirements. Operational specifications can change during the season due to crop or market conditions. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each days work. Instructions and general supervision will be provided by the employer or a designated employee. Workers will have close supervision to insure adherence to instructions. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality. Use of personal cell phone or other personal electronic device during working hours strictly prohibited except for work-related calls or emergencies and violation may result in immediate termination.
Special Requirements
Training will be a period of 2 days with the first day to acclimate the worker to physical demands of work and to familiarize workers with the job specifications and to demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop specific issues. Employees should not negatively affect the productivity or impede the production of their work team. Employees will not fight at any time while on Southern Grown operated property or its subsidiaries. This includes physical or aggressive verbal altercation.
